The company plans to build the new outlet on the former AgResearch site on the corner of Springs Rd and Gerald St.
The company has bought the 4.7ha site near Lincoln New World.
Said Woolworths New Zealand director of property Matthew Grainger: "Lincoln is a thriving, high-growth community, and we see strong demand for a second full-service supermarket to meet the current and future needs of the community.
"We are in the very early stages of planning and look forward to engaging with the community and the council as we shape the future development of this important site."
